About the Webinar:

Is a hot dog a sandwich? Who gets to decide? And why does it matter? As demonstrated by Foucault, all categorization is fluid and context-driven.
Taxonomies need to be project-specific. Taxonomic thinking is also design thinking, as classification and category-determining strategies are project-specific design decisions that affect – and are informed by – the rest of the information architecture.
Using the #IsAHotDogASandwich meme as a point of departure, we will explore how taxonomic decisions are context-driven – and also how the act of designing a taxonomy can lead to unexpected project/content/design insights as well as ethical considerations.

After early career stops as a philosopher, music theorist, and wine geek, Bob Kasenchak has settled in as a taxonomist and Director of Business Development at Access Innovations in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Bob designs taxonomy and metadata projects for scholarly publishers
